Greenwich - Vintage Black Metal E27 Pendant Lamp Holder

The Greenwich takes its name from the south-east London district whose maritime workshops, observatories and surviving industrial buildings have long balanced utility with a distinctly architectural character. Its black metal body and exposed E27 fitting draw on that same tradition: functional, durable and intentionally visible rather than concealed behind a decorative shade.

Designed for use with a standard E27 Edison Screw bulb, the Greenwich allows the lamp itself to become the focal point. Paired with a clear filament bulb, smoked globe or oversized opal lamp, it creates a simple suspended light with the character of early workshop fittings and restored industrial interiors. The black finish keeps the profile restrained, allowing the shape and glow of the chosen bulb to lead the composition.

The holder is suitable for mains voltages from 110 to 240 V and accepts dimmable or non-dimmable E27 bulbs up to 60 W. It can be used when restoring an existing fitting or as a component within a custom pendant-light installation. Wiring and ceiling components are not included, and installation must be completed by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

The Greenwich is designed for interiors where the bulb is intended to remain visible. It works particularly well above a kitchen island in a row of three, over a bedside table as a compact suspended reading light, in an entrance hall with a decorative globe bulb, or above a café-style dining table where a conventional shade would feel too formal.

Its matte black appearance pairs naturally with dark timber, aged brass, exposed brick, limewashed walls, blackened steel and raw plaster. The fitting can be kept minimal with a simple clear bulb or made more decorative with an oversized globe, tubular filament lamp or softly tinted glass bulb.

Use the Greenwich with a clear teardrop filament bulb for the most recognisably vintage expression, or pair it with a large opal globe for a softer, more contemporary result. A smoked-glass bulb gives the fitting a darker evening register, while an amber-tinted lamp introduces the warm, low-level glow associated with early electric lighting.

Suspended individually, it works as a compact bedside or reading light. Installed in a repeated row, it becomes more architectural, particularly over a kitchen counter, dining table or bar. Black fabric-covered cable, aged-brass ceiling roses and dark timber surfaces complement the holder especially well, while a plain white ceiling rose creates a cleaner contrast in more restrained interiors.

Installation guidance

This lamp holder is supplied as an electrical component for use within a compatible pendant-light installation. A suitable ceiling rose, suspension cable, cord grip and mounting hardware may be required. Ensure the chosen bulb does not exceed 60 W and that all connected components are rated for the intended mains voltage.

Electrical power must be isolated before installation. The fitting should be installed and tested by a qualified electrician in accordance with current local wiring regulations. Do not use outdoors or in bathrooms, wet rooms or other locations where a higher ingress-protection rating is required.
