The banker's lamp is one of those silhouettes that simply cannot be improved upon — a wide, bowed metal shade pitched forward over an antique-brass column, softened by a single brass pull-cord chain, mounted on a stepped brass plinth. Named for Lincoln's Inn — the Holborn quarter of barristers' chambers, leather-bound legal libraries and Tudor archways where the silhouette was first associated with serious work after dark.
