A single dimpled-glass sphere held aloft on a tall brushed-gold stem, casting soft caustic ripples across the wall behind it. The Belsize is a quiet, well-mannered floor lamp — one shade, one stem, one circle of warm light — designed for the corner of a drawing room or beside a reading chair where the conversation matters more than the fixture.
The shade is hand-textured clear glass, dimpled like rain on still water; switch the lamp on and the texture refracts the light into a slow-moving pattern of pale shapes on the nearest wall. The stem is slim brushed-gold metal — gold-tone rather than mirrored, with the warmer, softer reflectance that suits evening light. A weighted round base in matching brushed gold keeps the proportions graceful while holding the lamp securely in place.
It takes a single E27 bulb. Pair it with a warm filament-style LED at around 2,200 K and the dimpled glass becomes the centrepiece of the room without ever shouting about it.
Where it earns its place
Position the Belsize beside a low sofa or armchair where the shade sits roughly at shoulder height when seated — that way the caustic pattern reads across the wall rather than into the eye. It works particularly well against pale plaster, soft linen drapery, or a panelled wall painted in a dark heritage colour, where the textured glass becomes the brightest point in the composition. Avoid placing it directly beside a television, where the moving light pattern competes with the screen.
