Marylebone is the outdoor wall light for the parts of the house that face the weather and want to look considered doing it. A 10-centimetre powder-coated cast-aluminium cube, perfectly square, mounted flush to the wall. At the top and bottom, two slim horizontal slot openings — beam-shutters, adjustable by hand — through which the integrated 10 W warm-white LED throws two trapezoidal cones of light: one upward, one downward. The result on a textured wall is a soft hourglass of warmth, sharp at the source and diffusing as it fades. The fixture itself nearly disappears; the light does the work.
Named for the Marylebone street-edge — Georgian stucco that has quietly modernised, oak front doors flanked by topiary in galvanised pots, brass house-numbers, the kind of frontage that means business without shouting — Marylebone is the wall light for the considered exterior.
