There is a particular quality of light that belongs to the converted warehouses south of the river — a warmth that seeps through ironwork and settles into brick. The Bermondsey captures precisely this character: a cylindrical cage of finely perforated metal mesh, suspended from a gracefully curved swan neck arm, casting an intricate lattice of amber light across whatever surface receives it.
The shade is formed from a single cylinder of precision-perforated steel mesh, finished in a deep matte black that speaks of Victorian foundry craft. When lit, the mesh transforms — each tiny aperture becomes a point of warm light, projecting a constellation of honeycomb shadows that shift and breathe with the room. The effect is architectural, almost textile in its delicacy.
Where it works best
A classically proportioned swan neck arm curves outward from a round backplate detailed with concentric rings — a nod to the turned brass fittings of nineteenth-century gas lamps. The geometry is deliberate: the arm holds the cage at precisely the right distance from the wall to allow the light pattern to develop fully before it meets the surface.
